How Do You Continue, When You Can’t See Progress?

Have you ever felt that you were not progressing the way you wanted to, whether in your business, relationship or a new talent you are developing?

Often times people give up after a short amount of time of starting something new. In January, the gyms are swarmed with people, but within a few short months, they are fairly empty. Countless abandoned blogs lie on the internet, that once someone was excited about creating. Millions of Youtube channels lie abandoned. Countless business ventures are abandoned.

I want to share with you a way that you will help you accomplish your goals and dreams as opposed to letting them rot to death in the graveyard of broken dreams as so many others have.

What if I told you that if you just dedicated 15 minutes at the very minimum 5 days a week to what you want to create, that you would eventually get it done. That’s 65 hours a year, if you wanted to do 6 days a week its 78 hours a year. That’s enough to make a dent in almost any project. And if you want to spend 30 minutes a day that adds up 130-156 hour a year.

So often, we look at a project and it’s overwhelming. Just the sight of it makes us doubt ourselves and we don’t even try. One of the things I do as a coach, is help people get started and keep going during the times when they lose sight of their goal or they get frustrated and don’t want to do anything. Sometimes we feel that 15 minutes wouldn’t make a difference.

Take a look at the scale pictured above. Is there any item that you could place on one side that would have no effect on the other side?

No, there is not, no matter how tiny the weight or item that you place on that scale it will impact the other side, even if its just at a microscopic level. That’s how we reach our goals, at a microscopic level that eventually after quite a bit of moving forward we begin to notice.

When we are working towards our goals, sometimes we feel that we are not getting anywhere. Progress is a journey, not an event or destination.

This also means that even when you feel you are not progressing, you actually are. The more days you take the necessary actions to get your goal, the closer to the goal you will get.

Every action that you take in pursuit of your goal is getting you closer to your goal even if its just at a microscopic level.  That is often where change takes place, we don’t generally go from drawing stick figures to becoming Van Gogh over night. For many that have struggled with change for years this can be frustrating and exhausting.

When we look each day at our stick figures and realize how we are not any closer to becoming Van Gogh, we get frustrated, and often times we stop.

What if we didn’t focus on the end result so much? What if we could focus on the activities we are taking each day to get us closer to that goal? We can measure those, we can get better and improve those. If we don’t keep practicing and progressing on our goals, then we will not get them.

What progress have you made in this last week? What is one area that you feel you have improved in? And if you feel that you haven’t progressed in any are, look even harder. Maybe you decided to make one more sales call. Maybe you decided to ask that person out. Maybe you just simply asked a friend for help.

Stop being so hard on yourself and realize that every action you take even remotely in the direction of your goal is getting you closer.

If I put a guitar pick on the scale pick you wouldn’t see much of a change. But If I put 100 guitar picks on it, you would see the scale move. So start putting your guitar picks on the scale, and see what happens.

A scripture I enjoy says, “By small and simple things are great things brought to pass”

The more days that you keep putting in the effort and putting some weight on the scale, the more you begin to see the results that you want to see.

And that is how you begin to live “The It’s Possible Life” Just start what you really want to do, suspend your disbelief long enough and you will make the impossible, possible.
