Are You Closer To The Person You Desire To Become?

Can you be the first to spot the Leprechaun?

Have you ever tried to apply that old adage, “Jesus Take The Wheel”?

Last week I tried this, and ended up crashing quite a few times. Why did this happen? I thought that if I just gave him the wheel everything would work out fine. Apparently, there are two parts to this whole thing about Jesus taking the wheel. Maybe it’s not so much about God taking the wheel and steering it for us. Because he actually can’t generally do that — that would take away our agency. We have to play a part in this also.

It reminds me of a well-known story about a preacher that is driving down a road and comes across a beautiful farm that is very well taken care of. It had beautiful gardens full of flowers and shrubs. It was full of a fine herd of cattle mooing gracefully in the pasture.

He pulled off to the side of the road to admire the farm and noticed a man on a tractor, hard at work. The man noticed the preacher, and pulled the tractor to the side and said, “Hello.”

The preacher responded, “Wow, GOD has certainly blessed you with a magnificent farm.”

The farmer smiled, looked at the preacher and said, “Yes, He has, and we’re grateful. But you should have seen this place when he had it all to himself.”

This story illustrates a few great points. Absolutely, the Lord blesses us but he just blesses us with opportunities, it’s up to us to see what we want to do with them. We are all blessed with amazing opportunities when we listen and work hard, good things happen.

I think about Michelangelo and how he was provided with a giant rock, where most other people would say, I think I shall look for other opportunities, he said, “In this rock I see a beautiful statue I shall call David!”

As Proverbs 3:6 says , “He will direct our paths, not force our paths!  He can force no man. That would defeat the purpose of our being here on earth. So what is our role as we are lead and guided? Our role is to follow the guidance that we are given. Back to the take the wheel example, he will not drive for us, he we will just guide us where to steer, and we have to steer the wheel for ourselves.

Part of this life is understanding we are human and being compassionate with ourselves when we do mess up. As I mentioned above, this week was one of a few crashes, then later as I was pondering on this last week. I was lead to some pretty awesome things as well, I think we are often our own harshest critic. As I pondered further the thought came to me, “Are you closer to the person that you want to become, than when the day started, or are you further away?

In some of my goals I was farther and in some of the others I was further away. I thought though what a great question. We are not going to have every day of our lives be perfect, we are going to have hard frustrating weeks and we are going to experience sadness in our lives as well. The question at the end of the day doesn’t say to list everything you did get done. It’s just simply

“Am I closer to the person that I desire to become when the day started or further away?”

Then remember anything you did that day, no matter how small towards becoming the person that you desire to be. And on the days that you aren’t decide what corrections need to made.

When you allow him to that inner still small voice, which is how GOD speaks to us, will provide us the course corrections that we need, and when we allow him to guide which way we turn the steering wheel he will guide us towards those things, people and opportunity that will make us truly happy!

Just Start now, because it’s always better late than never! When you start, you make the impossible, possible!
