No matter how big or inspiring your dream is, if you don’t show up to do the work then you are not going to achieve it. I believe we fall into one of two groups 1) We work hard towards our dreams 2) We wait around thinking of the best action that we can take, and often never getting around to it.
For years I have been one of those that waits around until the perfect idea comes to them. Then one day I had an impression that changed my life.
I have created a point system for myself where must get 60 points each day to be done. Then one day while watching the movie The Ultimate Gift, I had an impression from that inner voice to do 1000 pts in a week. I thought it was crazy, but I enjoy a good challenge so I decided I would do it.
I started the week and worked hard, Monday I had 100 pts which was off the amount needed of 200 per day. Tuesday I had 129, a little better. Wednesday I worked really hard and got 185. Thursday came and I worked pretty hard and gained 161 pts. When Friday came I was still short by 425 points. That morning was the time to step up or give up. Now knowing I was human, I had placed some bigger point values in my system, one of these was for every single call that I made I would receive 1 pt. It didn’t matter whether they answered or even if it was a wrong number, it was still worth a point.
I decided that morning, that I had already come so far with 575 points that I had to keep going. I picked up a digital phone book and dialed from the morning til 6 PM when I needed to finish for an appointment I had. By that time I had made 271 calls, and finished many other things. The calls had taken longer than I thought and I was still 105 pts short of my goal.
Saturday, I woke up and looked at my score sheet. In the past I haven’t worked on Saturdays often, but that number of only 105 points left was staring at me, egging me on to see if I would finish what I had started or like so many other times in my life, allow myself to call it good and say I got really close and that was good enough. I decided that I had to complete this challenge and so I started making calls. I finished my 105 points that day, and even got 7 more than I needed.
I had accomplished the 1000 point goal that I had set for myself. When I first had declared the goal, it seemed way too difficult and hard but now I realize it was the exact challenge that I needed to stretch me and help me grow. It took much more work than I anticipated, but I achieved it and felt content with the work I had done. I went online and purchased the reward I had promised myself and allowed myself to enjoy the rest of the evening.
Looking back on this experience, this challenge helped me break through a mental barrier in my own head of what I thought I could not do. Now, I realize that what had seemed like a jump over a 15 foot canyon was more like a 5 foot jump.
Joseph Campbell says, “there are certain chasms that cannot be crossed in three easy steps.”
Sometimes we just have to take the leap and we turn what appeared to be impossible into the “it’s possible.”
In each of our lives we have the opportunity to step up and say Challenge Accepted and go after it with everything we have or give up and say we gave it our all but it just wasn’t in the cards.
Will you choose to step up or give up?
We all grow by taking massive steps towards our goals, that at first are uncomfortable.
What is a massive step that you can take towards realizing your life goal?
What’s your 1000 point challenge
This week give it everything that you have, and you will break through your own mental barriers.
What’s the BIG “It’s Possible” step that you need to take in your life to see a massive shift towards your dream? Let me know in the comments below.
Then go ahead and do them, just give them a try, and you will turn the impossible into the “IT’S POSSIBLE”

It takes faith, desire, and determination to challenge ourselves. Several years ago I made a pact with myself that I would do whatever it takes to lose some weight. It took me about four very long years to lost 25 pounds. I kept making poor food choices, didn’t exercise every day, etc.. But, I did lose 25 pounds! I am 62 years old. Sometimes my body hurts and my internal dialog is less than positive, especially when I am hurting. On Monday when I woke up my body was not happy and as I began walking on the treadmill I could have easily given up because of the pain, but I pushed through it and felt better for having done that. Each day that God gives me is such a blessing…he knows what we are capable of. Sometimes we just don’t give ourselves the pep talk we need to become better in every area of our lives. Thank you so much for sharing your experiences and how you overcome trials and just push through. Truly inspirational.
